4 EASY DIY LAUNDRY ROOM ACCESSORIES TO MAKE YOUR THE MOST OF THIS BORING TASK! During my laundry room makeover, I decided that I needed a few other items. I added this cool shelf and wall art. But something was still missing. I found this cool tip jar on Pinterest but making another wood project seemed like a daunting task, so I made a few concessions and decided to DIY some laundry accessories. Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Click here for the full disclosure. Every laundry room needs a place to put lint, change, and lost socks, am I right? Here are some ideas for you: 1 – Tip Jar It is a pretty simple craft really. 2 – Sock Corral I don’t fold socks in the laundry room, in fact, I don’t fold any clothing in the laundry room. Partially because I don’t have a folding table, and partially because I would rather be watching football (unless it’s not football season and then I watch some random crime drama). When it comes to socks, I usually throw them into whatever laundry basket they belong to without the match. However, I’m starting to see the error of my ways. I never know when there is a missing sock. So I end up with lots of unused socks sitting in a drawer and then mornings are filled with fighting….about favorites that no one has seen in 4 months but “I HAVE TO HAVE THEM TODAY!” Nobody wants that. SO…..I have to rethink my method. Recently, I re-started matching the girls socks, at least. Once I started this, I needed a spot to keep unmatched socks. I knew I wasn’t going to keep this up, so I didn’t make anything special BUT if you want some ideas, check these out: Single, seeking soul mate sign found here Missing sock frame found here Till we meet again rack found here The other trick I’m going to try is putting all socks in a lingerie bag. If I wash and dry them in a bag like this, they will never lose their match……RIGHT?!?!?!?! Now to figure out how to get the kids to put the socks in the lingerie bag before washing (or losing the socks) 3 – Lint Trash Bucket It is an extremely important task to empty the lint trap while doing laundry. It will prevent your house from catching fire (most importantly) but a clean lint trap quickens drying time AND lowers your electricity bill. However, it is a tedious task. And if you (really I mean me) have to walk 10 feet to throw away the lint, it might not get done. So………I highly recommend adding a lint trash bucket. And the best part – you can make your own using the tools you already have out to make your tip jar. Here is what you’ll need: Bucket Painter’s tape Chalkboard paint Foam brushes Chalk or chalk markers Directions Similar steps to the tip jar but you will start with your bucket. I recommend using a tall or wide bucket. Make sure it is clean and dry. Tape off the shape you want – square, triangle, diamond…I did a square (like I did in my tip jar). Using a foam brush, spread the chalkboard paint inside your shape. Wait one hour before applying another coat. Use your chalk marker (or chalk), write “lint” in whatever fancy font you want. 4 – Laundry Sorter The entire process of sorting laundry is soooooo boring! So how can we forego this? Simple – add a laundry sorter like this. BOOM! Organized laundry room AKA cash cow/match maker!! Check out this post to find out more about our new laundry room. Do you have laundry room accessories? I want more….so share the ideas below!!! Happy Crafting,

INSIDE: COME CHECK OUT HOW WE GO FROM DRAB TO FABULOUS LAUNDRY ROOM WITH EASY DIY IDEAS THAT WON’T BREAK YOUR WALLET Help me Rhonda! Help, help ME!!!!! I need a laundry room makeover! It’s a mess. I completely dislike this place and LOATH having to spend time in here. I am trying really hard to NOT use the word hate….but I hate wire shelves. They are all over my house because that’s what builders use. Replacing them is expensive and I’ve never had the inclination to change over. But now I do!!!! Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. Now I want my home to look like I care about it. I want to have function and purpose and NOT HATE it!!!! Not too much to ask, or is it? I feel lucky to have a laundry ROOM. Our old house had a laundry closet. Nothing to do there. It was in a hallway and the washer and dryer were shoved in like a pack of sardines. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now that I have a room, it seems to be a giant closet. What flippin sense does that make? It’s the room right off the garage so I could easily make it a mud room as well as launder the clothing there. Hmmmm…… I don’t want to stack the washer and dryer. And honestly, I like the idea of having a sink close by. We bought an utility sink BUT never hooked it up. Par for the course…but…we are changing our ways! So let’s tackle a laundry room makeover. Appliances The washer and dryer are new so we are happy there. We bought the drawers for underneath them so I didn’t have to bend so far to switch a load…bad back you know. But I’m not currently using them to their full potential…will get to that later. The wire shelves are another bone of contention….how could we replace them without breaking the bank? Easy…we make our own. HAHAHA…not always cheaper alternative but in this case it is. I found this idea on Pinterest and immediately thought it was perfect!!! In general, I’m not the industrial or farmhouse kinda girl, but these….these make me happy. I explain how we did the shelf here. But let’s continue with our laundry room makeover…. Remove the mess I removed everything from the laundry room! Holy cannoli!!! I don’t even know what to say! But it’s clear that this room needed a redo in a BAD way!!! Redesign Remove the wire shelf!!!! It was like a 1 ton gorilla getting off my back! Be gone!!! This hardware was a pain in my butt!! I tried hand twisting with a screwdriver, using a drill, and they didn’t move. I was getting so frustrated, I went for a hammer. When I pried the first one out….I was a little scared that I ruined the wall. But a phone call to my handy hubby made me feel better and I kept going! It was so invigorating to remove that shelf!!!! I spackled the holes, waited for them to dry and sanded it down. It wasn’t perfect, but I knew the new shelf would cover most of this up. Next, I painted. The color I chose was solely for cheap reasons. It was the leftover paint from the girls room makeover. I used this color on the bookshelves. I wasn’t going to use it on anything else and I couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a laundry room make over. The girls helped me paint…no one stepped in paint but someone did get paint in their hair. It was too small of a room to have 3 painters and one of those painters is also a dancer. The new light went up thanks to Kris being super handy! My next task was the shelf. I was still so torn about length and width. I decided I needed to just go put my eyes on this wood. We went to Home Depot and found the perfect piece of pine. While we were at Home Depot, I decided to grab the rest of the pieces for my shelf. I need to grab a stain and the hardware for the shelf. Want to learn more about the shelf? I show you in this post. Here is how it looks now – Now the shelf is up and Chuck E.’s in love! Back to the organizing part. (It’s my favorite part.) PURGE! I literally had 4 bottles of toilet bowl cleaner. Do you know what this tells me? I found a really great sale (several times) and then forgot I had the ones at home. No one needs that much on hand….not even the shittiest people. 😂😂😂. I had Borax that was one giant clump still in it’s box…what good is that going to do?!? NONE. Trash it! Home-use dry cleaning kit…NOPE, I’m a grown-up now, I take things to the dry cleaner (or don’t buy the clothing because I don’t want to bother). I also wasn’t using my pedestals to their full potential. They don’t fit tall bottles so the laundry detergent wasn’t going to go there. However, other things could and I needed to make use of the space. So I pulled out the grossness, vacuumed and wiped out the pedestals, then proceeded to put less used things in there. Cleaning stuff on the right and laundry stuff on the left. There is some more room in the left one…I’m sure I’ll find something to put in there. Clean Oh lord, it was a mess. Dust and fallen socks behind the machines. Gross doors and trim. Grimy little fingers and dogs noses sure do create a giant mess. I sprayed the doors with Mrs. Meyers and ended up using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get rid of the scuffs. Rather than pushing the dust around and creating more of a mess, I pulled out the shop vac. Game changer! I was able to get behind the machines with ease. The baseboards needed a scrub too but I’m old and I can’t be doing all that. So I put the kid(s) to work!!! She only agreed to allow this picture on the blog for a small fee. I’m sure I should mop and clean the grout…but I don’t really feel like doing that ever today. Organize I mentioned needing a mud room. But it just isn’t big enough for everything I wanted. So I had to improvise…. What I absolutely have to have – Storage for book bags – right now the kids throw their bags on the back of the kitchen table chairs. Well, the bags are heavy and they tip the chairs over. I found this cute wall hook from Home Depot. I ordered it online and picked it up in my store – shipping was free!!! Handy man, Kris, installed the hooks and the girls tried it out with their heavy bags. I’ve been collecting wall art over time. I see something that strikes me, and if it is a reasonable price, I buy it. I have 2 discount “pottery” stores close to me so I can find cute little things for less than average prices. While Kris and I were looking for more storage options, we came across this sign that my friend, Kate, made us and we agreed that it would be perfect in here. Two reasons – colors worked well together AND most people enter our house through this room. We have already talked about adding another shelf and changing out the laundry dispensers BUT we didn’t want to hold off on finishing the room because of those things. It feels so good to have this room done. I’ve been planning it since April. It makes me want to do another one…. Have you tackled a laundry room makeover? How did it go? Any paint in your hair? DIY accessories? Share with us!!! Happy Decorating,
