INSIDE: CHECK OUT THESE 3 OUT OF THIS WORLD GRAY AND YELLOW WALL ART PROJECTS PERFECT FOR A MASTER RETREAT! During my master bedroom makeover, I decided that I need more wall art then just the stuff I could find at home decor stores. Don’t get me wrong, I found plenty of good stuff. But it was lacking punches of color that I wanted. Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. So I made my own perfect gray and yellow wall art!!! Check out these 3 out of this world wall art projects to decorate your master retreat or anywhere else for that matter. 1 – Handmade swirls I found this cool picture on Pinterest and thought I could replicate it without spending the hundreds people wanted for it on Etsy. Check out how I did it – 2 – Handmade letters Picked up these white letters at the craft store a long, long time ago. But I found these on Amazon that are the same price. Easy and wait till you see how I used them. 3 – Collage Canvas This might be one of my favorite projects of all time! I think the combo of pre-made wall art and DIY wall art made this project turn out timeless. Can’t wait to show you the room when it’s finished. Happy Decorating,

INSIDE: NIGHTSTAND MAKEOVER WITH MOD PODGE AND FABRIC. TIRED OF YOUR BORING FURNITURE? SEE HOW WE MAKEOVER THESE NIGHTSTANDS FOR OUR MASTER RETREAT! I am so bored with these classic nightstands. So during my Master Bedroom Makeover, I decided to take on a new method to refinishing furniture. Create new pieces by making over old nightstands with Mod Podge and fabric. Here are the nightstands in their former glory: Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. Dirty, dinged up and overall boring! SO I took charge – Pick a color. This will need to be to your taste, but I decided to go a shade lighter than my walls. Before we go on, you should check us out on the socials: Facebook, Insta, Pinterest Find the perfect fabric. This was easy because I have been collecting yellow and gray fabric for about 5 years (yes, that’s how long it has taken me to start this project). When adding fabric to the drawers, you will need to keep in mind that if the fabric is light and the drawer is currently dark, you will have to do some prep. The prep is to simply prime the drawers first. Choose drawer knobs. I found these at Home Depot and did a quick pick-up (curbside too)!! Remove drawers and hardware. Cleaning the surface with my favorite Mrs. Meyers. And then paint on the primer. Measure the fabric for the drawers. Using a tape measure, collect the measurements of the drawers. Cut your fabric leaving an extra 2 inches for the overlay. Get out the MOD PODGE! Start the Mod Podge at the end of the drawer, using your fingers, press the fabric to the Mod Podge and drawer. Working in sections down the drawer, laying the MP on the drawer and the fabric for good grip. Be careful around the corners, it can be tricky. Decide if you are going to MP the sides or the top/bottom first. I did the top/bottom, so when I did the corners they would fold into the sides. Once that first layer is dry, go over the top of it with MP again. This will just solidify the glue. After your MP is dry, you can begin the next step. Cut off the excess Time to trim the fabric. You might have a little leftover on the sides. If this is the case, I recommend using a craft knife to cut the excess fabric. Even the smallest sheers can be hard to get into the necessary spots. Be careful not to cut yourself! Always aim away from your body and fingers. (SAFETY FIRST!) POLYCYRLIC Next is this magical stuff. Polycrylic is key. Not only does it coat the fabric to make it smooth, but it protects it from damage when things run into it. It dries clear and does not turn yellow. New Hardware Now, you may be asking….how am I going to put the new hardware in there? Very simple actually. Take the new screw and poke it through from the inside of the drawer. It will push the fabric enough for you to see it. You can use your craft knife to cut the hole large enough to get the screw through it. Now you are ready for the reveal!!!! Obviously, I have a lot more to do on my Master Bedroom makeover but it’s getting there. Before and After – Whatcha think? Crazy transformation right? Let me know if you have tried anything like this before. Happy Decorating,

INSIDE: TEAM SPIRIT: FUNCTIONAL FOOTBALL THEMED FAN BOY ROOM!! IT’S THE BIG ROOM REVEAL!! After all our hard work this weekend, we finally have the perfect Football Fan’s Room….special for my nephew. If you missed any of the steps in the transformation, check out these posts: Let me remind you where we started: Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. This boy is a Spider-Man FANATIC!!! You can see the stickers on the walls, he was very hesitant to get rid of them but we compromised and saved the big one…. Let’s walk through what we did: DECLUTTERED!!!!! And what a difference that can make!! Now that I have a BLANK slate, I can visualize how to make the room function. We did a quick clean with vacuuming and cleaning up the walls. Then, I enlisted my Dad and son to help me start moving furniture in. The bed went in first and keeping Feng Shui rules in mind – we placed the bed on the right wall. As I said in a previous post, none of this would have been possible without the hard work of all 4 of our parents. Donated bed, bedding, dresser, bookshelf, lamp, TV, and elbow grease! Thank you all so much!!!!! The kids helped me make the bed. Since my nephew was so excited about the bed, we had the kids go outside for an hour. Upon their return, he would have a sweet surprise waiting for him. Thank God it was a nice day. Here comes the rest: After the furniture was in place, I kicked everyone out and did my thing. I did call my Dad back in the hang pictures but I could have done it (I think he loved being able to help). Without further ado: A few things – I left one Spider-Man sticker above his bed. I also left the letter I made him when he was born, even though its Carolina Panthers colors. He INSISTED that stayed! I asked him why he didn’t pick that theme….he said “maybe some day….” Ok kid, maybe some day! While I can’t tell you how she did it, my stepmother made this dresser and bookshelf look more amazing then I could have imagined when she explained the process to me. I want to learn how to do this!!! My Dad made the football play signs with a chalkboard. I made the custom Cricut sign. The lamp was made out of leftover fabric and Mod Podge. It was super simple and worked out great! (Thanks for the great idea Kate!) As with all makeovers, especially this football BOY room – Before and afters: Needless to say, I have had so much fun doing this for my nephew and my sister. I am so grateful for the help of everyone involved in this room makeover. My sister said, “Can you come back next weekend and do my room?” HAHAHA….nope! But I will come back and help you…..just might take me a year to recover from this one! What do you think? Want a room like this one??? Happy Decorating,

INSIDE: WE TURN A BOY ROOM FULL OF DISORDER INTO ORDER IN 4 SUPER EASY STEPS My nephew might be the cutest little guy in the world (I’m sure everyone sees him this way, it is NOT my bias). But he has made a mess for the ages! My sister is a busy, single mom with a limited budget and this room has just gotten away from her. So I (and some helpers) have come to the rescue to do a boy room makeover for the record books. Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. Current Situation: I don’t think they have ever thrown a toy away….what do you think? Quite simply, this picture is the definition of DISORDER. A small mess that doesn’t get taken care of right way…it becomes overwhelming and then you just close the door instead of tackling it. Well, turning this DISORDER into ORDER in 4 steps was my mission! What we had: What we needed: Thankfully, we have amazing parents and they ALL donated to the cause!!!! The bed was part of a no longer used room in my Mom’s house. The dresser was a find on Craigslist but made-over by a our stepmother. Like all declutter projects, we start here: 1 – Clear the clutter and PURGE Before we got there, I had my sister talk to my nephew about kids that were less fortunate than him. They want toys too, and if he isn’t going to play with them….he should give them away. He agreed so when we got there, we went right to work. We pulled out the things that were in the way, but he wanted to keep. And then the real work started. We made a donation bag, a trash bag, and ONE giant keep bin. Donations – any toys that weren’t broken got donated. LOTS of “baby” toys! Trash bag – we found broken crayons, action figures without hands….it didn’t seem right to donate those….. Keep bin – I was so proud of him! We got almost everything in ONE bin. And there it is. 2 – Clean A quick trip to Target for Swiffer Dusters, Mrs. Meyers multi-purpose spray, and Windex. Of course, that is not ALL we bought….but I had you going for a second didn’t I??? We cleaned off the bookshelf, overhead fan, and gave the night stand a good scrub! Once we removed the bed, we vacuumed the carpet, baseboards, and corners to remove any rouge cobwebs. 3 – Fix up the “keep” items The bookshelf was in good shape. The plastic drawers got a good scrub, and we put them in the closet for future use. The nightstand?? It had seen better days…..after cleaning it with Mrs. Meyers... I grabbed some flat black spray paint and went to town on the nightstand. And I’m kicking myself because there is no before picture of the nightstand. Here is the finished nightstand in his new room – 4 – Replace like things together We needed to bring in the new furniture for this to happen. BUT……first we took all his clothes out of the old dresser and laundry baskets. My sister went through them deciding what could stay and what needed to go. She put them into the NEW dresser in an organized fashion. He has too many pants (in my opinion) but I wasn’t going to fight that battle today! I’m not going to show you the dresser yet…….. Once the mess was fixed, we could get the room decorated. Want to follow the transformation? Come see related posts: Just start somewhere,

INSIDE: FINDING WALL ART FOR A BOY ROOM MAKEOVER ISN’T EASY – SO CHECK OUT HOW WE MADE SOME FANCY WALL ART FIT FOR A FOOTBALL KING When doing the boy room makeover for my nephew, I came up with an idea for wall art that was fit for the BIGGEST football fan! Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. Where to find amazing prints? The Navage Patch has a TON of these pictures that are free to use and they even show you how to resize the pictures to fit YOUR frames! I went with these…. I printed the pictures from my computer and they turned out such HIGH quality. Honestly, I can’t wait to use The Navage Patch for more projects!!! What kind of frames? During my planning stage, I found these cheap front loading picture frames at Walmart (sigh…..I figured out that my store as a kiosk and I don’t have to talk to a single person!!!). They were pre-matted too!!!!! I have never used a front loading frame before. But I knew I was in love the minute I figured out how they worked. You pull the corners apart and the glass pops out. This makes inserting a picture easy and now you can see how your picture looks before you tighten the back…because you don’t have to tighten a back. The other part of being picky about frames….how do you hang them? Are they the 2 tiny triangles of death? Do they have room for error (remember NOT math geniuses over here)? One single nail….YES PLEASE! Finished product Check out the fancy football wall art in my nephew’s room – Full room reveal coming soon……..but here is a little taste…… Want to see the whole transformation of this room? Click here to follow along. Happy Decorating,

INSIDE: COME SEE HOW EASY IT IS TO MAKE A PERSONALIZED CRICUT FOOTBALL PROJECT FOR YOUR FAVORITE FOOTBALL FAN! YOU CAN EVEN USE MY TEMPLATE!!! One of the best gifts I have ever received was my Cricut. I still have so much to learn but it is so FUN….and relaxing! When my sister asked me to come help clean up my nephew’s room, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to give the little man his own special spot. A place where he can unwind, play, or read a book. Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. When I asked him what he liked, without hesitation – the boy after my own heart – “GAMECOCK FOOTBALL!!!!” We talked how about his aunt (me) and uncle (my bro) both graduated from there…..etc etc. The garnet and black runs deep around here! University of South Carolina Gamecock Football. That is the kind of room a boy NEEDS! I started with making a simple Cricut Football Project. This is not a tutorial on how to use a Cricut – if you need basics, check out this site. 1 – Cricut Design Space Using the new and improved Cricut Design Space app on the computer (not the website), I wrote some things I thought would work for this sign. 2 – Font After writing all of these down, I realized it wasn’t what I was writing but the font I was using. So I went to Dafont.com and found this perfect font. It’s called Football Attack. I love this site because it downloads the font and installs it to your computer. No need to move it here or there. It’s really easy! 3 – Images Like every college team, USC has several images that fans see and KNOW what team it is. What I learned during this process is that the more complex the image, the harder it is to manipulate in the Cricut Design Space. BUT – I have this amazing friend that I use as my personal Cricut expert. So she walked me through using editing tools for images. I decided on the fighting Gamecock image, downloaded it to my Cricut Design Space, and inserted it into my project. Here is the finished project on Cricut Design Space. If you like the design and want to make your own Cricut football project, feel free to use it by clicking here. 4 – Hanging Medium Wood, canvas, straight on the wall??? Well, they live in an apartment so I decided that the removable vinyl might pose a problem. Canvas – boring. Plus I had leftover wood from another project so…I used my Home Depot pine. 5 – Cutting the Wood I used a REAL power tool!!!!! I was sooooo nervous. Thank goodness I had my super smart handyman, Kris, teaching me the ropes. I was still scared I was going to lose a finger. Using the circular saw, I measured 16″ so that the wood was a perfect square. YAY me! 6 – Whitewash the Wood Using leftover white chalk paint, I added 1/4 cup of water and mixed it well. I dry brushed the 16″ x 16″ piece of wood and waited for it to dry. 7 – Put Vinyl on Wood I bought matte black vinyl and glossy burgundy vinyl – because garnet isn’t a popular color…….and printed my project! Making sure to keep everything centered, I marked where my vinyl was going to start and end. That helped keep the vinyl straight. 8 – Hanging it Using a staple gun, I stapled some leftover fabric (different project) to the back and we used that to hang it in his room!!! The fabric is a little thick handled, but I wanted all the parts of the fabric to be seen. Honestly, my nephew loved it so….there! Click here to see how the Gamecock masterpiece came together! Happy Decorating,

Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Click here for the full disclosure. I used to think having a craft room was something only my Grammy could have. In her room, she had her sewing machines, paints, wrapping paper, yarn……GOD I could go on and on….that woman was DEFINITELY where I got my crafting gene from. But in her room – all of us felt like we were professional crafters. (Whatever that actually means!) SO – if we want one, shouldn’t we try to make one? My kids and I agree on this – YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As my kids get older, they have less of a use for a toy room and more of a need for creative spaces that allow them to make messes art. It was easy to convince them to convert the toy room into a craft room. Since I just did a laundry room makeover, I can’t spend more money on this project. I need a BUDGET – a REAL one! Not something that I kinda have an inkling of an idea of. I need a price and that’s all I can spend. How about ZERO DOLLARS??? Let’s talk about what I already have in the room. Ikea storage drawers and cabinets Bookshelf Target bin organizer Elliptical (HAHAHAHAHA – it has more dust than the laundry room did) TV/gaming consoles Sewing machine Loads of plastic bins filled with useless toys Stained rug Actually, there was a desk in here but the boy child stole it for his own room….so I need to figure out what I can use instead! With the kids on board, I sent them to the room with garbage bags and told them only to return when they had thrown away all their toys. HAHA – 5 minutes later – 7 year old is in her room with the toy she thought she “lost forever” and the 9 year old begging for me to come help her because “its just so hard to throw away toys.” SO let’s begin our craft room makeover – Remove AND Purge We did these together this time because it was MUCH easier to go through as we were moving things. 2 trash bags full of broken toys – Buzz and Woody would be so sad! But Mama was happy because the kids are finally beginning to understand why less is better! As we purged, we put like things together. Barbies together, games together, Build-A-Bear….the list goes on, but you get the picture. Rearrange Since this is a loft area, we are not painting it (the man cave is next door) until we’ve all agreed on a color – which will be never. I drew out what I thought would be a good design, but as I got moving…things changed a little. We got the nix on buying a new desk for me…..but we grabbed a table and chairs for the girlies. I also decided to get the elliptical out of there. However, I don’t really have another place to put it yet…..now it’s sitting in the man room bothering hubby. Oops! We moved some shelves over to make sure we keep it neat. Too much open space is asking for trouble. Organize Since we already had a lot of storage options in this room, we just needed to make the most of what we had and keep like things together. We got rid of the “baby” books and the “baby” stuffed animals. And started using the Ikea towers for useful things. We placed puzzles, board games, barbies, and LPS’s in the drawers and that gave us room for our plastic bins. Paint and paint brushes along with drawing supplies are now housed in these plastic bins (which were lost under the previous rubble.) I was able to move all of my sewing stuff into the white tower. I forgot I had all that fabric. Guess I should probably do something with all of that. I had a lot of help on this project….I think a certain little person who just turned 10 wants to use it to paint until her little heart is content! Now we have to come up with a place to put their art work. Wanna see before and afters??? I don’t like the carpet, but it serves a purpose and will stay for now. Stay tuned for the wall art…..I promise I will come up with something. Do you have a craft room or a toy room that needs a makeover? Will this craft room makeover help you decide how to get started? Happy Crafting,

INSIDE: COME LEARN HOW TO DIY A WOOD SHELF WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK Wire shelves suck! But all builders use them….everywhere. To replace them takes a small fortune. So when I decided to take the first step in ridding my house of these pesky things, I had to find the right replacement. We started with a DIY wood shelf in the laundry room. I took to Pinterest, of course, and found this picture. We immediately fell in love! I don’t have the original source….sorry about that. I’m not trying to steal anyone’s hard work. Sometimes, figuring out where to start is the hardest part for me….how about you? Hmmmmm, measuring the room is important! Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. That’s where I’ll start…. I used a measuring tape to measure from wall to wall. Mine was 92″ so when I went to Home Depot I knew exactly what to ask for. Of course, they are the experts so they made some recommendations based on what I was building. I bought a 12″ x 90″ x 1″ inch piece of pine. When I got home, I realized that it was actually a 94″ piece of wood. No big deal, Handy Man Kris made an additional cut for me (but Home Depot can do it for you, if you need it). While I was at The Home Depot, I also picked up the pieces I wanted to hang the shelf from. Here is what I bought: While I was there, I decided to grab my wood stain. Oh so pretty, so pretty and whitty….. I went with a Mission Oak stain plus poly in satin, hopefully this saves me a step. We loved the way Mission Oak looked on the display….so we grabbed a quart. I also needed to grab a stain brush, I’ve never stained anything (there I said it). I’m actually really spoiled. I ask my husband to do something handy and he does it for me. This is the first time I attempted something like this on my own. He did help me (A LOT)!! But he also taught me a lot! Now that I have all my supplies, I got to work. Deep breath – I can do this! Stain I followed the directions on the stain. It did not recommend sanding first so….I didn’t. I did test out the stain before I brushed it on the whole piece. When I was happy that I chose the right stain, I continued, using long brush strokes and NOT going back over my work. After about 6 hours, I flipped the board and stained the other side. I let this dry overnight. The next morning, I got out the handy sander and using 220 grit, I did a light sanding of all sides. I wiped the sand dust off and began staining again. I was happy with the color after the second coat but I had left some stain drips so I had to sand again. Once I sanded it, I actually liked the way it looked better. I decided I didn’t want to do another coat and was willing to take my chances on the poly. Hang the iron pipes Kris had to help me with this one. I have stated on numerous occasions that I am NOT good with power tools. OR MATH! So we measured and did some math….let’s be clear….Kris did the math. Once we decided where the flanges should be hung, we used a stud finder to determine if we needed the anchors or not. Anything that wasn’t going into a stud, got an anchor. We marked the top hole of the flange, hammered in the anchors, and got drilling! After the flanges were hung, we twisted the pipes in place and screwed the caps on loosely. We placed the board on the pipes and screwed the caps on tighter. The caps held the board in place nicely. (I was so excited, I forgot to take pictures.) I love this DIY wood shelf. And Kris loves it so much, he wants to put more of them around!!! Here are the before and afters of the laundry room: Sweet relief! I seriously detested that wire shelf! If feels so great to be done! Wanna see the whole laundry room transformation?? Check out this post! Have questions about building your own shelf? Ask away….if it has to do with math, I’ll ask Kris, don’t worry! Happy DIY’ing,

4 EASY DIY LAUNDRY ROOM ACCESSORIES TO MAKE YOUR THE MOST OF THIS BORING TASK! During my laundry room makeover, I decided that I needed a few other items. I added this cool shelf and wall art. But something was still missing. I found this cool tip jar on Pinterest but making another wood project seemed like a daunting task, so I made a few concessions and decided to DIY some laundry accessories. Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Click here for the full disclosure. Every laundry room needs a place to put lint, change, and lost socks, am I right? Here are some ideas for you: 1 – Tip Jar It is a pretty simple craft really. 2 – Sock Corral I don’t fold socks in the laundry room, in fact, I don’t fold any clothing in the laundry room. Partially because I don’t have a folding table, and partially because I would rather be watching football (unless it’s not football season and then I watch some random crime drama). When it comes to socks, I usually throw them into whatever laundry basket they belong to without the match. However, I’m starting to see the error of my ways. I never know when there is a missing sock. So I end up with lots of unused socks sitting in a drawer and then mornings are filled with fighting….about favorites that no one has seen in 4 months but “I HAVE TO HAVE THEM TODAY!” Nobody wants that. SO…..I have to rethink my method. Recently, I re-started matching the girls socks, at least. Once I started this, I needed a spot to keep unmatched socks. I knew I wasn’t going to keep this up, so I didn’t make anything special BUT if you want some ideas, check these out: Single, seeking soul mate sign found here Missing sock frame found here Till we meet again rack found here The other trick I’m going to try is putting all socks in a lingerie bag. If I wash and dry them in a bag like this, they will never lose their match……RIGHT?!?!?!?! Now to figure out how to get the kids to put the socks in the lingerie bag before washing (or losing the socks) 3 – Lint Trash Bucket It is an extremely important task to empty the lint trap while doing laundry. It will prevent your house from catching fire (most importantly) but a clean lint trap quickens drying time AND lowers your electricity bill. However, it is a tedious task. And if you (really I mean me) have to walk 10 feet to throw away the lint, it might not get done. So………I highly recommend adding a lint trash bucket. And the best part – you can make your own using the tools you already have out to make your tip jar. Here is what you’ll need: Bucket Painter’s tape Chalkboard paint Foam brushes Chalk or chalk markers Directions Similar steps to the tip jar but you will start with your bucket. I recommend using a tall or wide bucket. Make sure it is clean and dry. Tape off the shape you want – square, triangle, diamond…I did a square (like I did in my tip jar). Using a foam brush, spread the chalkboard paint inside your shape. Wait one hour before applying another coat. Use your chalk marker (or chalk), write “lint” in whatever fancy font you want. 4 – Laundry Sorter The entire process of sorting laundry is soooooo boring! So how can we forego this? Simple – add a laundry sorter like this. BOOM! Organized laundry room AKA cash cow/match maker!! Check out this post to find out more about our new laundry room. Do you have laundry room accessories? I want more….so share the ideas below!!! Happy Crafting,

INSIDE: COME CHECK OUT HOW WE GO FROM DRAB TO FABULOUS LAUNDRY ROOM WITH EASY DIY IDEAS THAT WON’T BREAK YOUR WALLET Help me Rhonda! Help, help ME!!!!! I need a laundry room makeover! It’s a mess. I completely dislike this place and LOATH having to spend time in here. I am trying really hard to NOT use the word hate….but I hate wire shelves. They are all over my house because that’s what builders use. Replacing them is expensive and I’ve never had the inclination to change over. But now I do!!!! Disclosure Statement: The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. Those funds help keep this site alive and kickin’ but it doesn’t cost YOU a thing! Click here for the full disclosure. Now I want my home to look like I care about it. I want to have function and purpose and NOT HATE it!!!! Not too much to ask, or is it? I feel lucky to have a laundry ROOM. Our old house had a laundry closet. Nothing to do there. It was in a hallway and the washer and dryer were shoved in like a pack of sardines. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now that I have a room, it seems to be a giant closet. What flippin sense does that make? It’s the room right off the garage so I could easily make it a mud room as well as launder the clothing there. Hmmmm…… I don’t want to stack the washer and dryer. And honestly, I like the idea of having a sink close by. We bought an utility sink BUT never hooked it up. Par for the course…but…we are changing our ways! So let’s tackle a laundry room makeover. Appliances The washer and dryer are new so we are happy there. We bought the drawers for underneath them so I didn’t have to bend so far to switch a load…bad back you know. But I’m not currently using them to their full potential…will get to that later. The wire shelves are another bone of contention….how could we replace them without breaking the bank? Easy…we make our own. HAHAHA…not always cheaper alternative but in this case it is. I found this idea on Pinterest and immediately thought it was perfect!!! In general, I’m not the industrial or farmhouse kinda girl, but these….these make me happy. I explain how we did the shelf here. But let’s continue with our laundry room makeover…. Remove the mess I removed everything from the laundry room! Holy cannoli!!! I don’t even know what to say! But it’s clear that this room needed a redo in a BAD way!!! Redesign Remove the wire shelf!!!! It was like a 1 ton gorilla getting off my back! Be gone!!! This hardware was a pain in my butt!! I tried hand twisting with a screwdriver, using a drill, and they didn’t move. I was getting so frustrated, I went for a hammer. When I pried the first one out….I was a little scared that I ruined the wall. But a phone call to my handy hubby made me feel better and I kept going! It was so invigorating to remove that shelf!!!! I spackled the holes, waited for them to dry and sanded it down. It wasn’t perfect, but I knew the new shelf would cover most of this up. Next, I painted. The color I chose was solely for cheap reasons. It was the leftover paint from the girls room makeover. I used this color on the bookshelves. I wasn’t going to use it on anything else and I couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a laundry room make over. The girls helped me paint…no one stepped in paint but someone did get paint in their hair. It was too small of a room to have 3 painters and one of those painters is also a dancer. The new light went up thanks to Kris being super handy! My next task was the shelf. I was still so torn about length and width. I decided I needed to just go put my eyes on this wood. We went to Home Depot and found the perfect piece of pine. While we were at Home Depot, I decided to grab the rest of the pieces for my shelf. I need to grab a stain and the hardware for the shelf. Want to learn more about the shelf? I show you in this post. Here is how it looks now – Now the shelf is up and Chuck E.’s in love! Back to the organizing part. (It’s my favorite part.) PURGE! I literally had 4 bottles of toilet bowl cleaner. Do you know what this tells me? I found a really great sale (several times) and then forgot I had the ones at home. No one needs that much on hand….not even the shittiest people. 😂😂😂. I had Borax that was one giant clump still in it’s box…what good is that going to do?!? NONE. Trash it! Home-use dry cleaning kit…NOPE, I’m a grown-up now, I take things to the dry cleaner (or don’t buy the clothing because I don’t want to bother). I also wasn’t using my pedestals to their full potential. They don’t fit tall bottles so the laundry detergent wasn’t going to go there. However, other things could and I needed to make use of the space. So I pulled out the grossness, vacuumed and wiped out the pedestals, then proceeded to put less used things in there. Cleaning stuff on the right and laundry stuff on the left. There is some more room in the left one…I’m sure I’ll find something to put in there. Clean Oh lord, it was a mess. Dust and fallen socks behind the machines. Gross doors and trim. Grimy little fingers and dogs noses sure do create a giant mess. I sprayed the doors with Mrs. Meyers and ended up using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get rid of the scuffs. Rather than pushing the dust around and creating more of a mess, I pulled out the shop vac. Game changer! I was able to get behind the machines with ease. The baseboards needed a scrub too but I’m old and I can’t be doing all that. So I put the kid(s) to work!!! She only agreed to allow this picture on the blog for a small fee. I’m sure I should mop and clean the grout…but I don’t really feel like doing that ever today. Organize I mentioned needing a mud room. But it just isn’t big enough for everything I wanted. So I had to improvise…. What I absolutely have to have – Storage for book bags – right now the kids throw their bags on the back of the kitchen table chairs. Well, the bags are heavy and they tip the chairs over. I found this cute wall hook from Home Depot. I ordered it online and picked it up in my store – shipping was free!!! Handy man, Kris, installed the hooks and the girls tried it out with their heavy bags. I’ve been collecting wall art over time. I see something that strikes me, and if it is a reasonable price, I buy it. I have 2 discount “pottery” stores close to me so I can find cute little things for less than average prices. While Kris and I were looking for more storage options, we came across this sign that my friend, Kate, made us and we agreed that it would be perfect in here. Two reasons – colors worked well together AND most people enter our house through this room. We have already talked about adding another shelf and changing out the laundry dispensers BUT we didn’t want to hold off on finishing the room because of those things. It feels so good to have this room done. I’ve been planning it since April. It makes me want to do another one…. Have you tackled a laundry room makeover? How did it go? Any paint in your hair? DIY accessories? Share with us!!! Happy Decorating,
