How to Stop Grocery Shopping
INSIDE: LEARN HOW TO STOP GROCERY SHOPPING, SAVE TIME AND MONEY!
How many of you love to wander the isles of the grocery store, throwing things in the cart that you probably don’t need but you might need for that recipe you read on Pinterest that would take far too long to make?
Yup! That’s me!!!!

So when our local grocery stores started their drive up grocery programs, I was ON BOARD!! You mean I can STOP grocery shopping? Yes….yes, I would like saving that hour of my week for something more important….
I opt to use Lowe’s Foods (based out of Hickory, NC – not available everywhere) for my shopping. Here is the deal. On Black Friday (and the week before school starts) they offer their “Food To Go” subscription for half price. That’s $49 per year. Normally it is $99 per year OR you can pay PER shop at $5 per order. Even with those fees, I have saved approximately $100 a week using this service.
How could I possibly save THAT much?
Most grocery services have an app that you can download to your phone. Once the app is available, you sign up for your account and start your shopping experience. The best part of the app is:
- The kids aren’t shopping with me. No needless snacks, breakfasts, or drinks shoved into the cart costing me a small fortune.
- I’m not shopping while hungry. I am only buying what I need, not what I want to eat in that moment.
- I can look in the fridge and cabinets. If I’m not sure I need it, I get up and look. If I use the last of something, I add it to my list as I go through the week.
- I can’t forget the list. I can add and remove as I go.
- Coupons are part of the checkout. Can’t forget those either.
- Find exactly what I want. How many times have you thought something should be with the baked goods but it was with the cereal instead? Gosh……a million times?!?!? Well, I don’t have to go back and forth a hundred times, everything I need is right where I need it to be because I search for the word!
Since so many grocery stores are offering this service, you must use what you are comfortable with. Do you want a Walmart employee picking out your groceries? This is what makes my decision for me…..
Personally, I haven’t used many of these services, so I searched some reviews to see if I could be persuaded to change from Lowe’s. Here is what I found:
Popular Grocery Store Pickup Reviews
- Walmart – Here is an honest review from Cheapism.
- Kroger/Fred Meyer/Harris Teeter – Here is a review from a busy mom.
- Publix – Has a very limited number of stores participating and not all items in the store are available. However, Publix is one of the most popular grocery stores on Instacart.
- Albertsons/Safeway – I was unable to find a written review on the pick up here, but I did find some horrible reviews about this chain….anyone know anything about it? It seems to be popular all over the country…..
- Food Lion – Another busy Mama tackled Food Lion’s pickup service with this review.
There is also Instacart and Shipt. Again, prices vary and fees depend on the store you use. Do you use either of these services? I would love to hear about your experience!! Comment below with which service and what store….tell us if it’s worth the price!
Happy (not) Shopping,
