How to Calm Your Guest Bathroom Chaos
INSIDE: Need to calm your bathroom chaos? Check out how we simplify a guest bathroom
It was brought to my attention that some of our previous makeovers had evolved over the years. The last kid bathroom update was in 2019?? I blame COVID!!!!!
COVID gets blamed for a lot of things……I digress………..
Regardless, today I will begin another journey – update the outdated makeovers.
First order of business, the jack and jill bathroom. Previously it was home to both girls. The older girl moved to her brother’s old room and no longer shares the bathroom. We made some changes to accommodate the youngest girl’s “style” but it is not inviting for guests.

Here is where we start:
Y’all I am SOOOOOO embarrassed. My BFF was here a few weeks ago and told me I should check out these cabinets, but I said…..OH I know……NO THE heck I didn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Apparently my sister told me this a year ago…..oops!!)
I really had ZERO idea. I thought it was messy, some towels maybe……But this was down right scary! It was one of those “out of site, out of mind” situations, but when I looked at this, I realized I needed to pay more attention cause I have a kid that doesn’t care about messes below the surface – she will hide them all!
Let’s get started
PURGE
Remove all items and sort through what can be saved. Trash what cannot be saved. Wash the numerous towels – if they can be saved. I really can’t figure out what some of these things are…..GROSS!
Ultimately I filled up a LARGE trash bag of lord only knows what….seems like there was a lot of chemistry projects; I am so sorry GUESTS!
Most of the towels were able to be saved, but those that couldn’t be put on the shelves for human use, we donated to our favorite animal shelter!
Clean
Start with vacuuming up all the yucky stuff – crumbs, hair, dust. Then, using my fav – Mrs. Meyers – wipe all the surfaces. I brought all the paper towels I could find, I thought I would need them!
To be transparent – some of this was so disgusting I thought I wasn’t going to make it…..thankfully most of it was slime. I HATE slime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Including the splatter in the back on the left side.
Organize
We had a lot of the things we needed from our previous makeover, but we needed more.
Guess what we did? We went to all of our favorite places – Target, Amazon, and The Container Store.
At Target, we found a much needed plunger with brush. I’m not sure where the old one went; it was probably part of one of those chemistry experiments. We needed some more medium baskets to aid in the under the sink organization. A new 6 peg wall hook to replace the useless towel bar. And a toilet paper organizer so the rouge rolls aren’t thrown around the space.
Amazon saved the day with the perfect floating shelves. We never had a towel bar on that side, so the plan was these would double as towel bar and decoration. However, I ordered the wrong size and they were not hung in time for the transformation pictures, I’ll get back to that later.
AND The Container Store helped with open storage bins under the sink for stackable storage. The perfect friendly sink organizer for holding all our new decorations.
Decorations
Decorations were never really done – I think somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that the girls would outgrow ANYTHING I did in there. Well, with the youngest now an almost teenager, I think it’s safe to say we can decorate without fear of “I don’t like this anymore.”
Greenery
She loves greenery. Trying to stick to that theme, we went shopping at Kirkland’s to find some wall art. Also found a few fake plants at Target.
Fixtures
Handy Kris to the rescue! He handled the new curtain rod with ease and made it more permanent, just in case anyone wanted to play Simone Biles in the shower, it won’t fall.
Paint
I am terrible about painting walls, I just don’t like it. Hence why it has taken me 10 years to put color on these walls. BUT this is something that I can do on my own, so I picked a color and painted after work on 2 separate days. Yes, I worked my 8-5 job and came home to paint. The little one helped with the rolling and of course she picked the playlist…..any guesses who had the most songs on that playlist? TS?!?!?!
Here is what the final products look like:
Before and Afters
Our first guests arrived and were shocked at the transformation. Needless to say, it was long overdue.
What do you think of the transformation? Tips on how to make a guest bathroom more inviting for them?
