I feel very fortunate to have an island, but it means there is more cabinets and drawers in my kitchen to organize and KEEP that way.

In January, I challenged myself to an organization month. Well, I did it, but did not add a post about kitchen island. So today – I give you the easy way to organize your kitchen island.

I didn’t have an island in my old house, so when I had the chance to add stuff under an island, I think I went a little overboard. I threw everything I could the drawers and cabinets without rhyme or reason.

This drawer we will call the “Man Drawer.” It houses grilling tools, koozies, and random items that don’t have another home.

You already heard the story of “crazy lid drawer.”

The other drawers were home to the towels and ziplocks bags, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil (overall, they stay pretty organized).

The cabinets below the drawers in the island…I really don’t know what I was thinking when I moved into this house and started these.

Heavy baking pans on the top pull out shelf? Yeah, genius idea!

I had vases that were stained and useless. Look I found the pitcher to my ice tea maker….I don’t know where the tea maker is….why do I have the pitcher?!? Trash!

Like all organization projects –

1 – Pull everything out and PURGE!

I decided that koozies needed a better home. They went into a glass jar in the coffee cabinet. The WOK – belongs with pots.

I cleaned the vases with soap and water. Then I mixed in some baking soda to see if I could remove the stains. The ones it didn’t work on went into a box then the trash. Safety first. Glass shouldn’t go directly in the trash, always put it in a box first. If it breaks, no one gets hurt.

2 – Clean the shelves

Of course, we always use Mrs. Meyers!

3 – Put everything back in an organized fashion

Heavy things on the bottom. Like things with like things. But remember it has to make sense to YOU!

Here is how mine ended up!

Just start somewhere,
