INSIDE: DURING THE 2020 DECLUTTER CHALLENGE, MARCH IS TOWEL DONATION MONTH. COME SEE HOW WE SUGGEST YOU DO THAT!
Times are scary right now, but we cannot forget about our mission of donating needed things to others while we declutter our own homes. During the month of March, clean out those linen closets and kitchen drawers by donating your towels.
It’s a perfect time to makeover those linen closets too!!!!
Where do we start:
Make a list of where you might have some mysterious towels.
- Linen Closets
- Laundry Room
- Pool side
- Under children’s beds
- With the animal supplies
- Kitchen drawers
How we decide to keep or donate:
Gather all of your bath towels, hand towels, wash clothes, and kitchen towels.
Once you put them all in one place, you can begin to see how many you have of each. There is no magic number of how many towels you should have but there are some “guidelines.”
- 2 bath towels, hand towels, and wash clothes per person.
- Additional 2 sets for potential guests.
- Do you reuse them for a day or 2? Do you get a new one every day?
- How often do you wash them?
- Seasonal towels should not be included in your main count.
Thinking of these things will help you narrow down the ones you MUST keep. Other things to consider –
- Too thin
- Ratty
- Smelly
- Old kid towels that don’t fit anyone anymore
- Do you have enough room to store them all?
Found one with a tear but still pretty useful
Turn it into rags. I had one bath towel that was tearing at one seam. So I helped it along, I made 20 rags out of it. If I ever have a need for that many rags, someone please come help me….I will need an intervention if I use all of them!!!!
But it was a good way to continue to use a towel that wasn’t completely useless to me.
Repurpose
Dedicate towels for the animal baths. I should have done this a LONG time ago! I have BIG dogs so I am giving them beach towels – I will put their names on those towels, and everyone has been instructed to use those to dry the boys after a bath or swimming.
Donate
Towels that don’t serve your purpose anymore, you don’t have room for, or you just don’t like can still be donated.
Keep in mind – to donate to other humans….it should be useful. Right? No point in donating if it can’t dry a person…..
So if you don’t like it but it still dries, consider donating to homeless shelters or domestic violence shelters.
What if it doesn’t dry humans anymore? Easy – donate to an animal shelter. They can use the towels for millions of things including cleaning up spills, small clean up after meds (have you ever tried to vaccinate 6 puppies at once???), and they can dry the animals too. For a list of animal shelters near you – check out this site.
Have questions? Ask away…..I’ve done my fair share of donating and volunteering to help animal shelters.
Happy Giving,
