Herb-Infused Dining Room: Bringing the Outdoors In

INSIDE: COME SEE HOW WE DECORATED AN HERB-INFUSED DINING ROOM – TO BRING THE OUTDOORS IN

A few years ago, my Mother’s Day present was all the down stairs walls got painted. The dining room got a dark gray. Darker then all the other rooms. And because of the large window facing west, it looks a lot darker than we thought it would. I love it though. It has a green tint to it and it flows so well with the rest of the house.

SO – when deciding how to decorate this room, I started with that green tint and started exploring.

The ‘herb’ theme came into play when I found these cute pictures at Kirkland’s. First the large picture then along came the two smaller ones.

I couldn’t help but think I could finish the room off with some more….and so I did.

Coupled with my house plants and some fake lavender sprigs, we had ourselves an herb dining room. Not typical but worked out great. I put gray placemats on the table with green napkins rolled up in wood holders and made a center piece with green, off white, and brown ball vase filler thingies and my lucky bamboo.

As for the rest of the dining room – here’s the story:

14 years ago, there was a store in Myrtle Beach with all the furniture you could imagine. It was high quality, nicely built, & great prices. Before we got Ashley, Rooms To Go, or Pottery Barn, we had this store. Honestly, I don’t even remember the name of it. It is no longer around…pretty sure it went under when Rooms To Go came to town.

Back then, we didn’t have a Petsmart or an International Airport…oh how we’ve grown. Anyway….we bought our first house and needed some furniture so we went to this place. We walked out with a dining room table, master bedroom suite, a couch and oversized chair. We still own all of them.

Growing up, my mom used to buy me Precious Moments for all of my special days. She started it with my girls too so we needed a place to display these cute little trinquettes. Floor stock at World Market! SCORE!!!

Then when we got married and my wonderful bridesmaids bought us our full set of wine glasses, we needed to display those with multiple bottles of wine, of course. I believe this was World Market also.

My next purchase will be a corner China display cabinet. We have a ‘borrowed’ one there now but it’s missing pieces and I can’t display anything. I would love to be able to put out my grandmother’s China.

We don’t use it much for formal dining but we sure do use it! Crafts, painting, big family dinners, birthday parties….I don’t feel like it’s a wasted room at all!

Happy decorating,
