How to Create Scrabble Wall Art

INSIDE: LEARN HOW TO CREATE SCRABBLE WALL ART TO CHANGE THE LOOK OF YOUR HOME

Like so many walls in our house, the one at the top of the stairs was BARE!

Of course, I went scouring Pinterest. I found this scrabble wall art display and now I’m glad I took a picture because I can’t find it!!!

But I am not wood maker. In fact, power tools scare me a little. However, I have this beautiful friend that never met a challenge she couldn’t tackle. So I asked if she could make scrabble wall letters for us. She jumped at the chance!!!

First –

I had to figure out how all our names were going to fit. Some names only had one chance. It was a little tricky, but this was my final plan:

Next –

My beautiful friend and I discussed the size of the tiles. I had 2 choices; 3.5” or 4.5”. After doing the math (and it was a lot more math than I wanted to do), I chose the 4.5”.

Finally –

We made a decision about the color. I wanted a white wash with some gray tones. But she suggested staining with a gray tone and use white for the scrabble letters. Let me tell you, she hit the nail on the head.

I am trying to convince her to write a post on how she did these. We’ll see if she bites. 😉

About 10 days later, I received my package in the mail and I wasn’t the only one eager to open it!

Before I could put them on the wall, I had to do more math. I laid them out on the front room floor and decided I needed something else. A ‘K’ for our last name. I went to Amazon and found a lady that does woodworking. She made this fantastic letter.

I painted it metallic silver and added it to my pre-wall set up.

Now – how to hang these without putting a million tiny holes in my walls and driving myself crazy?!?! Command strips of course. I bought the kind that clicks into each other and comes off easily.

My calculations gave me about an inch on each side of the letters to separate them. So figuring out where to put the first name was very difficult. Again, math, I didn’t want to do and wasn’t sure I did correctly. I just had to get started. So off I went.

Look, I even used a level to make sure I was doing it right! Once the first name was up the next one was easy. And the next even easier. I was on a roll!!!

The next name was a little more challenging because of the position but I did ok!

Since I was moving along so quickly, I decided I could hang the picture and ‘K’ letter. But I didn’t take the awkward weight of the ‘K’ into consideration and the command strips didn’t hold it. While I figured out what to do to fix it, I took a picture to send to my sweet woodworking friend.

She commented on how much she liked the ‘K’ just sitting on the dresser. So I thought about what I could put there to raise it a little but not hang it. An upside down milk crate!!! I was running out of time in the day so I ran to Michael’s and looked around. I found an unfinished crate and it was perfect. And since I was at Michael’s, I decided to look for other decorations…

And this is the end product.

I had a Scentsy warmer still in the box…I don’t remember what I bought it for but it works perfect in this space. The fairy garden and pink carafes were a previous DIY…more on that later.

I am so happy with the result! And if anyone is interested in getting their very own scrabble letters, comment below and I’ll message you the details.

Happy decorating,
